Dr Ray Farley is a specialist Neonatal Paediatrician (specialist “baby doctor”), highly skilled in caring for babies and infants, from newborn babies (premature and term) up to 12 months of age. Dr Ray has extensive experience in newborn care and is a practising private neonatologist. He provides specialist baby and infant follow-up and is particularly interested in baby feeding issues (including tongue tie release), irritable babies, neonatal critical care, neonatal resuscitation, antenatal counselling, newborn and infant nutrition, growth, and development.
Dr Ray graduated from Aberdeen University in Scotland before migrating to Australia with his family. Dr Ray completed his training in Paediatrics, specialising in Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine, at the Mater Mother’s Hospital and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Brisbane. He has over ten years of experience as a specialist baby doctor.
Dr Ray’s passion is driven by the relationship he builds with parents and babies, the enjoyment he seeks in keeping your babies healthy, happy and well and from making your experience as parents happy and fulfilling. As a father of twin girls (born prematurely), Ray understands the stress and difficulties associated with looking after newborn babies and young infants. His relaxed, laid-back approach makes him very popular with his patients (and their parents!)
Otherwise, Ray enjoys spending time with his now teenage twin daughters, playing snooker (State Snooker Champion), or teaching students, midwives, nurses and doctors the skills to provide life-saving care for babies and infants.
If you are looking for a highly skilled doctor to care for your baby, ask your obstetrician to refer you to Dr Ray. For any baby and infant-related concerns, feeding issues, or general care, ask your GP to refer you to Dr Ray.
Dr Ray is a private neonatal specialist based at the Mater Mothers’ Private Hospital in Brisbane. Dr Ray is a highly skilled specialist baby doctor, and can provide you with expert care before, during and after your baby is born. More often, Dr Ray will attend your delivery at the request of your obstetrician, or attend and review your newborn soon after delivery.
Dr Ray will then look after you and your baby while in hospital, seeing you both each day before you are discharged home. Once you and your baby go home, Dr Ray is available for any concerns you may have at any time or will see your baby at 6 weeks of age plus at 3 months if required.
Occasionally, your obstetrician may ask Dr Ray to provide antenatal counselling, whereby you will meet with Dr Ray before your baby is born to discuss any concerns that you or your obstetrician may have, and if there are concerns that your baby may require more expert input and perhaps special care nursery admission at or after delivery.
Dr Ray is highly experienced in caring for babies who may require expert neonatal care at or after delivery, including those babies born prematurely (< 37 weeks) or have expected (or unexpected) issues following birth. Dr Ray has admitting rights to the Mater nursery and will care for your baby whilst they are in the nursery, and follow up after discharge home.
Dr Ray also sees babies from birth to 12 months in his private rooms, including babies and infants referred by your General Practitioner. Your GP can complete the online referral (click here to open) to Dr Ray. Once received, the referral is triaged, and you will be contacted by Dr Ray’s rooms to make an appointment convenient to you.
